I still find it super surprising and interesting that you can literally dig ANYWHERE on the island. Certainly some places are worth digging more than others... but, it's definitely a wild way to snag resources in a pinch.
10:18 is maybe my favourite tip. It's something that seems so silly at first glance, but is actually pretty helpful at times! Maybe also the most fun 🤣
A comment about the sled: It can actually float on water and take you down rivers almost as effective as going down a snowy slope. It's so fun to have a makeshift kayak. I hope the devs let you use the shovel as an oar when on it so that way you have a little boat for the ocean too.
I think there's a lot of cool traversal possibilities that the devs are still looking to work into the game. The recent addition of the hang glider is evidence enough that they want to make traveling both fun and interesting too, so I'm definitely excited to see what they work in with the next series of updates regarding the sled and the potential I think it still has.
Follow up tips! Where he is building his base, DON'T. On day 150 (on Normal btw) That place is swaaarming with cannibals. It seems to be the main source of water and maybe fish for several tribes. Like, suddenly getting swarmed by 3 big golden mask dudes. Barely had enough time to cut down a single tree to make a new chain in my Zip Line express there. Or, build there if you want the challenge. If you build there early one, you should be able to build up defences before they really start swarming. You can wack 2 times (after death) to get more feathers of them. The locked door, is nice. But Big fat red man will body slam that door and almost one hit it. Build defences to stop them from reaching your door. Be careful when speed harvesting logs. There can only be 50 lose logs in the game at the same time. Lose being not in storage, or a part of a building. If you cut down more trees when there's 50 lose logs in the game, you'll start despawning them. Which is a paaain. 50 logs means 50 logs of any type. Cut a log into four, this one log now counts as 4 lose logs. Personal opinion. Kelvin's god like ability is "best" used to gather sticks and rocks. Filling your holders. You will use a lot of sticks and rocks. You can ever be "super" lazy and place down, ?? 6 stick holder blueprints. Tell Kelvin to build them! Then tell him to fill them. Also works for rock holders. Over all, good tips! I didn't know you could de-rotten food wit fire. Tho once you get the crossbow, and if you live in moose down. You'll literally be drowning in meat. Sometimes I just couldn't be arsed to build more drying racks and just let it root so I could throw it away. And! I didn't know the stealth + from grass armor also worked on animals. It makes sense of course. Just never though of it. Moose's aren't that afraid of you, just run up to them and one shot crossbow them. Might be useful if I start a new game! And lastly. If you start on the beach. Seagulls are a quick and easy way to stock up on meat. There isn't any "Small meat" like in The Forest. Tho it might be changed later. So birds give a nice big chunk of meat! Just stand still where you see them land a lot. If you don't move, dummies will land right at your feat. Like they are some kind of feather and meat delivery service. Have fun!
Something ive found, and never heard mentioned by any one, when setting up a spike wall if you use a half log and youre standing on the correct side you can just place the sticks however you want with no fuss from other sticks
That's definitely a good callout. Traps can be DEVASTATING when place in certain configurations, and have proven hella effective even when being scattered around high traffic areas. It ended up not making the video because it was WAY too long to include, but there's actually a dope way to set and rearm traps from within your base while enemies run around setting them off lol But, yes... Hard agree. Use traps when/where you can.
worth noting that once you give Virginia your guns, you can (save first) reload into the game and find them again so you both can be strapped at the same time.
I haven't noticed that or had a chance to look into that myself, but that definitely seems like a powerful adjustment if that's the route you want to go. That said, if you're going to go the route of file transing to gain extra weapons, you could probably just give yourself an extra weapon with the command console to avoid the tedium of file manipulation. Either way, anything that makes the game more fun to play is a good way to go.
The tip on building skull perches to bring the birds to you for feathers was nice. You could also build a birdhouse from the survival guide and let the birds come to you and leave feathers without all the barbarianism. YOU MONSTER!!!
There is an option you forgot to mention, an option which many seem to have taken to heart on various RUclips videos, one which doesn´t need cave crawling nor bunker busting. You become a cannibal and a master architect, with Kelvin and Virginia happy to munch on human flesh this trio may be the deadliest cannibal tribe to have ever roamed the island. Of course, to accomplish true mastery one cave should be conquered, those rope lines are too precious to disregard, other than that, welcome to your new life as a cannibal tribe chief.
I both didn't know this, and hadn't thought to try. It's hard to know exactly how/when it'd get used, but knowing that it's an option is a cool little addition! Thanks!
I think what they've managed to accomplish for an early access game is actually pretty impressive thus far. They've already confirmed some cool ideas they're looking to introduce into enemy behaviors, and I'm sure they'll be looking to expand well beyond that in time. I don't think not having everything entirely polished on an early access game is any indication of being a bad dev though...
I think with the game still in early access, it's entirely possible that even basic tutorial stuff just hasn't been fully implemented into the game yet. Hell, I didn't even know you could hotkey items until my 3rd day of playing. Not everything is going to be of monumental value, but there's definitely SOMETHING here for everyone I think.
I only get kalvin to bring 1 fish idk if they patched it, even for a drying rack he only brought 1. Plus you can only carry 3 fish. U can carry 7 meat they give more hp, and i rarely have trouble getting animals, racoons give 2 meat therefore meat > fish.
You can build in the shallows (or at least you could when the video was made), but you can't build out into deeper water unless it's something you build on when it's frozen.
@@XDeej imagine that u are falling from any place...even from a 1 log height. The multiplayer ingame chat can be Open in that time, and just because u Open it, u wont take fall damage :)...im sorry but can explain better😂 but try it...would love to see it in one of ur vids! Keep up the good work! 👊
just don't put logs on a zipline after telling Kelvin to drop logs here or he will take the logs off the zipline while they are traveling and drop them there.😂
Kelvin is actually just an addition to the super hard difficulty setting that the devs put out by default. I'm sure they'll be making normal difficulty available soon where Kelvin doesn't destroy your base and can fetch more than 1 log a minute. 😂
An appreciated notion to be sure. I've only recently pursued making RUclips content, but I've been a content creator for a while, so I'm likely in a better starting position in terms of polish and approach than most folks around my range are likely to be on average. That said, Sharing and posting with your friends and spreading the good word is always a hugely appreciated gift. 🙏
0:09-0:21 - The context for what you were about to take in was LITERALLY at the beginning of the video my guy. How you could hear that, and still comment this, is honestly surprising. Couldn't be me. I'd die of embarrassment.
Damn... I guess I'll need to change the title to something other than "All the tips that Jake doesn't know" ... It was so snappy too... 0:09-0:21 - Maaaaaaaybe consider paying attention before wasting my time, but, y'know... your call.
Tip. If you ever need skulls you can use the shovel to dig up loot such as coins, canned food, small rocks, bones and skulls

Personally, hoping for some of the raft/boats from The Forest to be brought over!

Traps. Traps are awesome. Use them for resource collection and some of the best animations in game.

4:22 Tip #13: How to Clear Cut and Deforest To You Benefit 😏
I can ALWAYS find a way to make deforestation a benefit. That's like... one of my 3 skills.

Do you can or cannot build on salt water? Thought you other vid said build on shallow salt water
You can build in the shallows (or at least you could when the video was made), but you can't build out into deeper water unless it's something you build on when it's frozen.
When u fall from a high spot, just open the chat and u will not get damage at all.
